Maple Syrup Madness: Saturday, February 20 – Saturday, March 6, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Saturday, 1 – 4 p.m., Sunday, Admission is Free, meet at the Log Cabin. Don’t miss this once a year event! Sap will be drawn right out of our own sugar maple trees and boiled down to sweet smelling syrup right before your eyes. Witness the process and sip a tasty sample! Take the trail on your own for a self-guided adventure, attend a Saturday 2pm public tour, or sign up for a group tour with the Education Department.

Woodworking for Wildlife: Saturday February 27, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, $20/$15 members, reservation required, meet at the Zand Education Center, Give wildlife a helping hand! In this hands–on workshop participants may choose to build one or more wooden or gourd wildlife structures to take home. The wildlife structures include nesting houses and boxes (bluebird and wood duck), roosting structures (bat house and robin shelter) and feeders (bird and squirrel) to name a few.

LCAP Valentine’s Celebration - Newark. Join Licking County Aging Program friends for a Valentine’s Celebration on Feb. 11 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Zerger Hall Senior Center, 745 E. Main St., Newark. Dinner includes Cornish hen and gravy, rice, green beans, red Jello salad, red velvet cake, red fruit punch, coffee and rolls. John Rechel and Friends will provide musical entertainment at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 and are on sale at Zerger Hall. Seniors with transportation inquiries can call 345-0821 or 1-800-452-0097 and ask to speak with the transportation department.

‘Art From The Heart’ - Newark. The Works and Licking Memorial Health Systems are partnering on the annual ‘Art From The Heart’ event on Saturday, February 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for children, $2 for members of The Works and is free for LMHS employees and their families. The event features a variety of children’s art and health-related activities. Children will have the opportunity to create works of art in mixed media, incorporating a wax resist technique and watercolors. Underground Railroad Program & Quilt- Newark. The Licking County Library has partnered with the Ohio Humanities Council to host a program on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. featuring Cathy D. Nelson founder of the Friends of Freedom Society and the Ohio Underground Railroad Association. Ms. Nelson will present a slide presentation and introduce the Ohio Underground Railroad Quilt which will remain on display in the library through February 27, 2010. The program will be held in the Meeting Room at the Newark Library, 101 West Main Street, and is open to the public and free of charge. The spring season opens with “Shipwrecked! An Entertainment—The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (as told by himself).” Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning Donald Margulies, “Shipwrecked” is inspired by the true story of an unlikely hero who spellbound Victorian England with his incredible tale. “Shipwrecked” will be performed Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20, and Tuesday through Saturday, Feb. 23-27.


A Night At The Oscars - Millersport. The Millersport Community Theatre proudly presents “A Night At The Oscars” 2010 Minstrel on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6 at 8 p.m. The annual performance will take place at the Millersport Elementary School Auditorium, 11850 Lancaster Street, Millersport. Marc Cohn on Valentine’s Day - Midland Theatre, 36 N. Park Place, Newark. Grammy winner Marc Cohn will perform on Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. Soulful piano work and intriguing songwriting (Walking In Memphis) won Cohn the 1991 Grammy for Best New Artist. This acclaimed singer-songwriter, pianist, acoustic and electric guitarist will lead a musical journey with deep grooves, layered textures, and soulful singing..
