Rodney L. Crist

Rodney L. Crist, 62, of Baltimore, died peacefully at his home on January 18, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rod was a lifelong resident of Baltimore. After graduating from The Ohio State University College of Business, he began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with KPMG (formerly Peat Marwick). He served as the Chief Financial Officer for Harding Hospital prior to its affiliation with OSU Hospital. He was the Chief Financial Officer of Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services until his retirement in November 2009.

He was a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs, Financial Executives Institute, and The Ohio State University Buckeye Club. He was past President and Board Chair of the Central Ohio Chapter of Healthcare Financial Management Association, past President of the Liberty Union-Thurston Board of Education, former Treasurer of the Christ United Methodist Church, long- time Treasurer of the Baltimore Lions Club, and served on the Financial Advisory Panel of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for Continuing Care Accreditation Committee (CARF-CCAC).

Rod was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, friend, and Buckeye. He spent many hours delighting his grandchildren, taking them for boat rides on Buckeye Lake, and being the doting Papa. He readily gave of his time to many community organizations. He worked tirelessly for the Liberty Union-Thurston Schools and was President of the Board when the new high school was dedicated. He also enjoyed his role as the chief funnel cake maker for the Lions Club fundraisers. Rod was an avid Buckeye and never missed a home football game.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Cheri (Fenstermaker); daughter, Kim Kaluger (Kris) of Redondo Beach, CA; son, Kip (Juli) of Lewis Center; six grandchildren, Nikolas, Grant, Courtney, Reid, Lily, and Trace; sister, Kathy Schweitzer (fiancé, George Wilber) of Port Clinton, OH; mother-in-law, Norma Fenstermaker; sistersin law, Judy (Bill) Munshower, North Royalton, OH and Lynette (Dave) Walter, Warren, IN; many extended family relatives and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fredric Crist; and his mother, Bette Crist Blackstone.

Services were held Jan. 22 at Christ United Methodist Church, Rev. Michael Donnally officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
