Ethel L. Large

A funeral service for Ethel L. Large, age 70, of Thornville, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Bob Beyer and Pastor Carol Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Large died January 25, 2010, at her home. She was born June 25, 1939, in Licking County, Ohio to the late Robert Dewey and Orpha Dona (Grady) Thompson.

Mrs. Large was a 1957 graduate of Jacksontown High School. She was employed by Lakewood Schools for twenty-six years as a bus driver, retiring in 2002. She had also been employed by the former Newark Hospital and Licking Memorial Hospital.

An avid Lakewood supporter, Mrs. Large often drove the bus for band and athletic activities and had been a band camp counselor. She had also been a summer cook for Camp Falling Rock Boy Scout Camp. She enjoyed traveling, bus tours and cruises and had visited Cancun, the Caribbean, Nashville, Branson and New York. She loved to attend her grandchildren’s events. She was a member of the Red Hot Hatters.

She is survived by two sons, Robert A. “Rob” (Kim) Large of Newark and Frank E. Large of Thornville; three grandchildren, Bryan, Bethany and Chance; and sisters, Romona (Harold) Burns of Thornville and Lee (Arvin) Walker of Newark.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Large, on February 15, 2005; and by a brother, William Brown.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, at the funeral home, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.
