George Ambrose Spires, Jr.

A funeral service celebrating the life of George Ambrose Spires, Jr., 78, of Millersport, was held December 6, 2009, in the Chapel of the Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville, with Rev. Fr. James Ogurchock as celebrant. Burial with full military honors followed at Kirkersville Cemetery.

George died Thursday, December 3, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 18, 1931, in Columbus, the son of the late George A. and Grace Elizabeth (Gallagher) Spires. He was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School, and served honorably with the US Navy. He was employed as an electrician with Local #683, I.B.E.W. for 55 years.

He was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Columbus.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife Janice (Fabing), whom he married on January 25, 1958; his children, Bryon (Grace) Spires, Charles (Julie) Spires and Treva Bailey; nine grandchildren; his sisters, Jean Armintrout, Joan (Donald) Finneron; and brother, Hugh (Bud & Darlene) Spires.

Among his many interests, George enjoyed his pilot’s license, the Hot Rod Club, Columbus Aqua Ski Club, boat racing, but most of all fishing off the dock at his home on Buckeye Lake.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Gerald Spires, Lucille Guehl, Eileen Garrison, Ruth Frost and great-granddaughter, Lauren Sophia Bailey.
