C-Tec sets career fair for freshmen

NEWARK – The Career and Technology Education Center (C-TEC) of Licking County’s Career Development Office, in partnership with the Licking County Business/Community Advisory Council, will host a free Freshmen Career Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Denison University’s Mitchell Field House.

The fair gives Licking County 9th graders the opportunity to explore career and educational options by speaking directly with professionals. Students then record their reflections in their electronic Individual Academic and Career Plan (IACP) using the Ohio Career Information System (OCIS).

According to the Ohio Department of Education’s Web site, “The goal of the Ohio Career Information System (OCIS), as a career and academic development tool, is to help Ohio students learn more about educational options while they develop skills in decision making and goal setting and improve work habits and attitudes. In addition to the OCIS, the Individual Academic and Career Plan (IACP) is available to assist students with academic and career exploration and planning.

Beth Bronkar, C-TEC’s Career Development Coordinator, said, “The career fair supports the career development key topics of: self awareness, self assessment, career information, exploration, academic planning, and reduction of bias, future trends, employability skills and career/technical orientation.”.
