Millersport named School of Promise

MILLERSPORT - Millersport Elementary School was named a School of Promise by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). The distinction was awarded to only 60 schools in the State of Ohio.

Used to measure academic success in Reading for the 2008- 09 school year, the School of Promise award requires a 75% score in Reading for grades three, four, five and six. Millersport exceeded that percentage with 97.7% in the third grade, 84.2% in fourth grade, 84% in fifth grade and 89.3% in sixth grade.

ODE recognizes schools that demonstrate high achievement in reading or math for all student groups and sub-groups. To qualify for the award, a school has to have 40% or more of its students living in low-income households, as well.

Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) must also be met by qualifying districts.
