Leslie P. “Cotton” Sites

A funeral service for Leslie P. “Cotton” Sites, age 87, of Hebron, was held October 20, 2009, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson- Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Steve Brown officiating. Burial followed at Newark Memorial Gardens.

Leslie passed away Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). He was born December 19, 1921, in Franklin County, to the late Leslie Albert and Mary Jeanette (Breckenridge) Sites.

Cotton was known for his well groomed strawberry and vegetable gardens. He shared his crops with anyone who stopped by. Cotton retired from Hebron Milling Company. His hobbies included woodworking, and playing mandolin in The Cottons Picker’s Square Dance Band. Cotton and his wife Jerry loved to square dance. He was also known for his musical and animated Christmas displays at the northeastern corner of the intersection Ohio 79 and Ohio 37.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine “Jerry” (Brigner) Sites whom he married June 6, 1945; children, Ervin L. “Sonny” (Kei) Sites of Maysville, North Carolina, Jeannette M. Koehler of Hebron, Martin P. (Lennis) Sites of Knoxville, Tennessee, Vivian K. (David) Dernberger of Hebron; grandchildren, Lee (Sandy) Koehler, Jennifer Koehler, David Dernberger II, Seilienah Dawson, Sherry Sites, and Angela (Matt) Cornett; great grandchildren, Kaycee Dernberger, Wesley and Wyatt Cornett, Billy Dawson, Lexi Boyd, Steven (Tracy) Jenkins, Raymond (Jennifer) Jenkins, Tashina (Jay) Justice, Brian Gettis, and Chad Inman; great-great grandchildren, Kiley Jenkins and Cailyn Brown; sister, Laura Folden of Hebron; sisters-in-law, Lillian Sites of Baltimore and Mary Ellen Brigner of Grove City; brother-in-law, John Brigner of Utah; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Cotton was preceded in death by his brothers, Russell, Donald, John, Lawrence and Leroy and his sister, Polly Kagey.
