Voters urged to support Issue 2

Editor:

Vote “Yes” on Issue 2!!

It will establish the “Ohioans for Livestock Care” board of 13 members. Their job will be to ensure Ohio families have a safe, locally grown food supply; bring together the best Ohio expertise in animal care; reinforce consumer confidence in Ohio-raised food; maintain the viability of Ohio agriculture - the state’s number one economic contributor -and sustain Ohio’s family farms for generations to come.

The Ohio Livestock Care Board will have a versatile background. Each member will represent their organization and will consist of: three family farmers, two veterinarians, a food safety expert, a representative of a local humane society, two members from statewide farm organizations, the dean of an Ohio agriculture college and two members representing Ohio consumers. These individuals will use their best knowledge in making decisions affecting animal agriculture.

As a lifetime farmer, I welcome the board to review present research and to request new research. This will help guide the family farmer and the consumers in making best management practices through enforceable rules. The economic competition among farmers is fair when all are held to certain high standards. This includes all imports. Ad- ditional benefits are to produce a health food for a wide range of consumer needs.
