Dawes Arboretum - Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Plant Oktoberfest- Saturday, Oct. 3, 8:50 a.m. - 3:00 p.m, $28/$20 no lunch, The theme for this year’s Plant Oktoberfest is Resuscitate Your Landscape. Speakers will include staff members of The Dawes Arboretum along with Joe Steiger, a Certified Professional Soil Scientist, Lee Dunlap, C-Tec P.L.A.N.T. instructor, and Jim Chatfield, who writes for The Buckeye magazine published by the Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association. Six presentations will cover subjects including soil assessment, composting, proper plant selection and planting method, landscape practices to avoid, and plant diagnostics. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. and the seminar ends at approximately 3pm. Please register early so we can ensure a space for you by calling 740.323.2355 or 800.44.DAWES!

Night Hike- Friday, Oct. 16, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Free, meet at the Visitors Center Deck. Experience The Arboretum at night! Kids and adults are welcome to attend the hike through collections, woodlands and trails on one of our most popular programs.

The grounds are open from dawn to dusk. The Visitors Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays. Call 740-323-2355 or 800-44- DAWES for information or visit www.dawesarb.org.

Lake Tours - Buckeye Lake. See historic Buckeye Lake by boat. Take a ride on the Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society’s Queen of the Lake II. The 40-passenger boat cruises every Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. from May to October. Board at the Buckeye Lake State Park’s North Shore Ramp just off Ohio 79 in the Village of Buckeye Lake. Tours are not operated during thunderstorms. Suggested donations are $11 for adults and $9 for seniors and children. Children under age 5 are free. Halloween Fun - Devine Farms, Hebron. Our annual Pumpkin Festival runs through Oct. 25. Devine Farms is in five farm buildings so rain or shine, come on down to the farm. Buckeye Lake Fire Prevention Parade - Buckeye Lake. Come out Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. for the Buckeye Lake Firefighters Association’s annual Fire Prevention Week Parade. The parade begins at 1 p.m. from across the Pizza Cottage on Ohio 79. The fire trucks and other participants head up Ohio 79 to the fire station where the association will serve a free hotdog and ham & bean lunch to everyone. Pie Sale - Millersport. Buy a delicious pie from Twig 13 members Saturday, Oct. 3 at Watson’s Valero station. Sales start at 9 a.m. and last until the pies are gone. Pies are $8 each.

Oktoberfest - Somerset. Come out Saturday, Oct. 3 from noon to 7 p.m. to celebrate Oktoberfest at the Jacob Miller Tavern, 202 W. Main St., Somerset. Tickets are $10 and include a commemorative mug full of beer, cider, or root beer and a brat dinner. Activities include Amish buggy rides, police department dunk tank, music and antiques on display. All proceeds go to the restoration of the Jacob Miller Tavern which is on the National Register of Historic Places and the oldest hand hewn log home in Ohio.

Operation Medicine Cabinet - COTC/OSU Newark Campus and Pataskala. The Licking County office of Home Instead Senior Care has scheduled Operation Medicine Cabinet for Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. to help seniors dispose of expired or no longer used medications. Old medicine can be dropped off at COTC/OSU Newark Campus parking lot off of Country Club Drive between Sharon Valley Road and Granville Road, and the Southwest Licking Main Station Firehouse in Pataskala on Broad Street. Seniors or their family members can simply drive up to the location where Licking County Sheriff’s deputies will be on hand to oversee the drop-off of medications into a locked container. After the event, the medications collected will be properly disposed.

Paul Bunyan Show - Cambridge. The Ohio Foresty Association’s annual show returns October 2-4, at the Guernsey County Fairgrounds just outside of Cambridge (Old Washington exit off I-70). Visitors will find more than 130 exhibitors who represent all facets of the forest industry throughout North America. New to the event this year is The Game of Logging Professional, Landowner and Collegiate National Finals. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for students and seniors, children under 6 are free. Fee covers all events and entrance into all exhibit halls and educational seminars. Parking is free.

Pumpkinpalooza - Lynd Fruit Farm, Pataskala. TWIG of Nationwide Children’s Hospital persents Pumpkinpalooza from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saaturday, Oct. 3. Enjoy a day-long family autumn festival. TWIG Pumpkinpalooza features food, hayrides, a pumpkin patch, corn maze, face painting, children’s activities, a raffle, and an outdoor concert, Admission is free with tickets sold for most activities (some free) and for food. Lynd Fruit Farm is just west of Ohio 310 on Morse Road. All proceeds will benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

77th Annual Utica Homecoming Fall Festival - Utica, Head up Ohio 13 Sept. 30- Oct. 3, for rides, food, arts & crafts, RV show & sale, carriage rides, petting zoo, entertainment, strolling entertainers, cruise-in, parades and more. Hours: Wednesday- Friday 5-10 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.-11 p.m.,
