Joy Pauline Latham
Joy Pauline Latham, age 79 of Thornville, entered eternal rest on Monday, September 14, 2009 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, Newark.
Joy was born in Oak Harbor, Ohio, on November 2, 1929, to Clarence and Thelma (Brunkhorst) Bunning. She was the first daughter after four sons, the first of four daughters, baptized in 1929, confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, graduated from Port Clinton High School, was very active with the drama club and 4-H . She was a very active member at Grace Lutheran
Church for approximately 45 years. She deeply loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved all children. Joy was a homemaker, wife and mother, worked for the government in her early years. She liked to travel and camp in the great outdoors. She liked fishing, Powder Puff Derby racing, loved doing projects with children and young people, Arther Murray dance instructor, loved animals, birds, gardening, flowers and her life on the farm. Joy enjoyed baking and family dinners. She was a 4-H advisor for nearly 60 years, a permanent member Licking County 4-H Extension Committee, member of 4-H Southeastern Ohio District Committee and Licking County 4-H Advisory Committee. She received awards from Ohio State University for Meritorious Service, Friendship and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for her 4-H service. She also received awards from Hartford Fair for dedication to 4-H, two special awards from Licking County Cattlemen Association for service, her 4-H Club received Gold Seal Honor club for many years and she received numerous silver plates for outstanding service in 4-H. She attended 17 annual 4-H North Central Regional Forums in 12 states.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Delbert K. Latham; daughter, Linda L. (Edward) Jones; sons, Paul (Edna) Latham, Mark (Lisa) Latham and James (Kristan) Latham; grandchildren, Carl Redman II, Christopher Redman, Shane Redman, Paula Latham, Clayton Latham, Emily Latham, Maggie Latham, Jana Latham, Aislinn Latham, Brietta Latham, and Kallan Latham; great grandchildren, Tanner Redman, Cora Dawn Redman, and Sidney Nicodem; brothers, Russel (Margretta) Bunning and Boyd (Diane) Bunning; sister, Wilma Greider; and many nieces and nephews.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Thelma; brothers, Kenneth, John, and Roy Bunning; and sisters, Enda Ann Bunning and Norma Johnson.
A Memorial Service was held September 21, 2009, with Pastors Jeff and Patti Morlock officiating at Grace Lutheran Church.
Boring-Sheridan Funeral Home, 56 South Main Street,
Thornville, assisted the family with their arrangements.
