Harold Vernon Powers
Harold Vernon Powers, "The Little Long Boy "age 87 of Hebron, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009, at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born on September 18, 1921, to the late Orphey and Edith (Long) Powers. Harold was a member of the NRA, Granville Ohio State Patrol Auxiliary Post 25, and served in the US Army Air Force in WWII as a Corporal. He loved hunting, won an award with the Ohio Big Bucks at the age of 74, and was a sharp shooter expert with the pistol at a shoot in Newark at the age of 50. He was a member of the American Legion for 60 years, recently a member of the Hebron Post of the American Legion, Buckeye Lake Moose Lodge Post 2434 , and the Buckeye Lake VFW Post 1388.
Harold is survived by children, Ellen Maurer and James V. (Rosalee) Powers; sister, Dorothy Powers Smith; grandchildren, Joseph age 29, Elizabeth age 20, Sarah age 17, and Benjamin age 12.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009, from 3 -5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Boring Sheridan Funeral Home, 56 South Main Street, Thornville.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Morlock officiating at Grace Lutheran Church, 65 East Columbus Street, Thornville. Burial will follow at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery with a military service to follow.
