Coach thanks community for new track and field complex

Editor:

Now that I have been able to take a breath after the past three to four weeks with the track dedication, managing the Sweet Corn Festival 5K run and helping out with the cross country team, I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed in any way to make our new track and field complex a reality. A hopefully complete list of donors appears on Page 11, including all the individuals, families, businesses and organizations who donated money, time or supplies to the cause. The member of the Track and Field Committee are also listed. Their tireless work is very much appreciated.

What a wonderful facility we now have. We have an eight lane, all-weather track, new field event areas, new fences and new stadium lights. Our entire community can take pride in this new facility. We are looking to hosting the Mid-State League, Cardinal Division track meet on May 11 and 14.

I was humbled and honored that our community and the Walnut Township Local Schools Board of Education wanted to name the facility in my name. Thank you for the honor. It means a lot to me.

I ask everyone to please treat the facility with respect and follow the directions on the signs when using the new track surface. With proper care and attention, we can have a great place to walk, jog or run for a long time before we have to do any upgrading.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who have made the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival 5K such a success the past 20 years. We had a record number of runners/walkers (434) finish this year. Thank you to our sponsors and those who donated door prizes, water stop cups etc. Without all your efforts, this would not go off as well as it does. I have heard many good comments from the participants on how well our meet is run each year.

I am so blessed to live in such a caring community. Thanks again.
