Joan "Karen" Stewart-Rife


passed away on Aug. 27, 2009, after a courageous battle with Amyloidosis. She was born Dec. 6, 1954, to Carl and Martha Stewart.

As her final act of courage and altruism, Karen asked that an autopsy be performed at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital by Don Benson, MD to further their research and ultimately their success with treating this disease. Karen was a selfless, kind and caring woman who always put others before herself.

Karen attended Newark High School, graduating in 1973. She worked for Waldenbooks with many wonderful friends. She loved books, movies and every television show her father didn't.

Karen is survived by her parents, Carl and Martha; her brother, Carl (Linda) Stewart; four sisters, Lola (Chuck) Paullin, Mary (Bill) Fulton, Carla Stewart and Annia Stewart. She has three nieces, Sarah Rector, Candice Stewart


and Morgan Rector; seven nephews, Andy (Elizabeth) Hupp, Guy Matthew Rector, Josh Fulton, Edward Rector, Christopher Stewart, Kyle Fulton and Luke Fulton. She also adored her great niece and nephew, Madisen and Bradley Kussmaul. Her best friend was Kathy Shamell.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles and Myrtle Morgan, Troy and Annia Stewart.

A memorial service was held on August 30, 2009, at Brucker- Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastor Tom Myers, presiding.
