Hochradel appointed to Liberty Union-Thurston board
BALTIMORE - Shaun Hochradel of Baltimore was appointed to the Liberty Union-Thurston School Board at a special board meeting last Saturday morning.
He was one of four applicants to fill the remaining four months of Kevin Byers' term. Byers had been appointed in March 2007 after Janet Raver resigned.
"All four were qualified," Superintendent Paul Mathews told The Beacon. All four were interviewed by board members during an executive session.
The board set a tight schedule to fill the vacancy due to the August 20 deadline to file a petition to appear on the November ballot. The terms of board members John Hutton and Mike Raver also expire at the end of the year.
Hochradel has lived in the community for more than 31 years and graduated from Liberty Union-Thurston High School. He has a bachelor of science in business administration from Ohio University and is working on a MBA from Mississippi State University.
Hochradel has been employed by Nationwide Insurance since 2000 and currently is a business project management consultant.
He chaired the Citizens for Liberty Union Thurston Schools campaign that asked voters last year for more money to build a new middle school and renovate the high school. Hochradel also worked closely with the board and administration to start a high school girls' soccer program that will begin play this fall.
