Dawes Arboretum - Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Going Green with The Dawes Arboretum - Wednesday, July 1, 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Free, registration required by June 29, at the Visitors Center, This program is open to newcomers to Going Green with The Dawes Arboretum as well as those who participated in the first session in April. Participants will learn how to conduct green audits within their workplaces and prioritize and strategize ways to make changes on the road to environmental sustainability.

Pruning Practicum: Pruning Conifers - Saturday July 11, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., $15/$10 members. Reservation required, at the Visitors Center. The class will take a ride with Arboretum Curator of Conifers Jeff Bowman to the Conifer Glen for outdoor work. This will be a very hands-on class featuring the proper methods for pruning different conifers in the landscape.

The grounds are open from dawn to dusk. The Visitors Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays. Call 740-323-2355 or 800-44-DAWES for information or visit www.dawesarb.org.

Bug Beauty Contest - Join the Licking Park District for the first ever "Miss Creepy-Crawly Contest" on July 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Taft Reserve's William C. Kraner Nature Center. We aren't asking our participants to play the piano or sing opera snippets. This contest will be one of true beauty. Join us as we scour the fields and meadows around the William C. Kraner Nature Center in search of spiders and insects. Whoever catches the bug voted "most beautiful" wins first prize! Following our hike and beauty contest we will learn about bug body parts, including the abdomen and thorax and what they are used for. We will, learn the life cycle of various bugs. We'll even make a buggy craft or two to take home. So don't stay inside, venture out and join us for the Miss Creepy-Crawly Contest! There is a $3 fee per person with a $10 family max. Car Show and Free Movie - Hebron. Come out to Hebron Evans Park for a car show and free screening of "Grease" on Saturday, June 27. Car show registration begins at 6 p.m. with an $8 fee. The free movie begins at about 9:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Hebron Business Association.

Bake Sale - Millersport. The Millersport Little Lakers are holding a bake sale at Watson's Valero from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 27. Proceeds benefit Little Lake football players and cheerleaders.

Be Creative with Music - Hebron. Come to the Hebron Library on Tuesday, July 7, at 11 a.m. to explore the world of music through stories, activities and a craft. This free program is for children in grades K thru 5. Call the Library at 928.3923 for more information.

Be Creative with Recycling - Hebron. Hebron Library and Licking County Recycling and Litter Prevention are teaming up on Tuesday, June 30 at 11 a.m. to make the world a greener place. Children in grades K-5 are invited to hear a story and make a craft from recycled materials. This is a free program. Call the Library at 928.3923 for more information.

Kid's Day - Newark. The Energy Cooperative will host its fourth Kids Day event at The Works in downtown Newark on Sunday, June 28th from noon to 4 p.m. The Works, a local showcase for history, art, science and technology will open its doors for this special event being held in appreciation of the members of The Energy Cooperative and their families. The day includes free refreshments, door prizes, electric safety demonstrations, entertainment, a health clinic, and interactive displays for children of all ages. Free admission tickets are in The Energy Cooperative's May-June issue of the member newsletter.

"DOWNTOWN LIVE" - Columbus. DOWNTOWN LIVE, a free Thursday-after work concert series at the corner of State and Third Streets on the plaza (in front of the Hyatt on Capitol Square and 65 East State Street buildings) is back for a fifth summer season. A new feature this year will be the first hour of the concerts from 5-6 p.m. showcasing the acoustic talent of Alex White. Shortly after 6 p.m,. the main talent will take the stage, providing a more energetic and lively experience.
