'Proud to be an American and live at Buckeye Lake'
Memorial Day Weekend brought out the best of Buckeye Lake. It started with the best Memorial Day parade yet with the first appearance of the Lakewood and Millersport bands. They were a delight.
The crowd at the newly furbished North Ramp of the Buckeye Lake State Park was impressive, as was the ceremony honoring members of our armed forces past and present by the Buckeye Lake Post of the VFW. A 21-gun salute followed by Taps left people with a sense of what Memorial Day is all about. The Buckeye Lake Community Christmas Celebration Committee provided free hot dogs, cotton candy, and drinks.
The first annual Little Miss Buckeye Lake contest was held after the food and eight contestants between the ages of four and eight were presented. After answering the question, "What do you like best about Buckeye Lake," doing a curtsey or two, and smiling a lot, Paige Christy was crowned the winner. Expect more contestants next year.
I was proud to be an American and live at Buckeye Lake. And, on the subject of pride, I've noticed a growing number of residents taking more pride in their homes and yards. All of this makes Buckeye Lake a better place to live and enjoy the lake and all of its activities. Keep up the good work!
