Lakewood High School seniors Carli Crawford, Eric Carr, and Cody Menter, left in the photo, all recently signed letters of intent for collegiate athletic scholarships.. Crawford will play women's golf at Urbana University, Carr will play football at Wittenberg University, and Menter will play football at Denison University. "(Golf) sounded like fun. I didn't think I'd go to college for it," said Crawford, whose father is Chad Crawford of Newark. She plans to study early childhood education. Menter isn't sure what his major will be yet, but he is sure he'll be a running back for the Denison Big Red football team. Denison Football Coach Nick Fletcher said he expects Menter to play as a freshman. "We're very thankful to have Cody on our team," he said. Menter's parents are Mark and Kenda Menter. Carr plans to study pre-engineering at Wittenberg, where he'll also be the football team's strong safety and running back. He said he visited Wittenberg to explore its academics before the college's football program recruited him. Janice Carr-Digilio of Thornville is Carr's mother. Beacon photo by Scott Rawdon.
