Carol L. Bowman

A funeral service for Carol L. Bowman, 71, of Hebron, will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark. Pastor Rick Rintamaa will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark.

Mrs. Bowman passed away April 28, 2009, at the Arlington Care Center. She was born November 13, 1937 in Newark to the late Carl L. and Gladys E. (Alban) Oatman, Sr. She was a 1955 graduate of Newark High School, received a BS degree in Education from Ohio University and a Masters degree in Education from The Ohio State University. She had worked in the Newark City School District, taught elementary students for 30 years in the Lakewood School District and was a member of the Licking County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Bowman loved golf, travel, gardening and was accomplished in sewing and knitting. She was a member of the Central Christian Church.

She is survived by her son, Craig (Annette) Bowman of Heath; her daughter, Cheryl (Gary) Bachelor of Newark; her sister, Clara "Betty" (Jerry) Ashcraft of Newark; her brother, Carl L. (Katherine) Oatman, Jr., of Toledo; grandchildren, Brandon Bowman, Eric Bachelor, Sarah Bachelor, Tyler Bowman, Lauren Bowman; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and neighbor, Dudley Diggs of Hebron.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Bowman in 2005 and an infant sister, Roberta Sue Oatman.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
