Township chooses contractor for fire station
THORNVILLE - Thorn Township Trustees chose the WDC Group from Springfield, Ohio to design and build the Thornville/Thorn Township Fire Department's new fire station.
"They were the most qualified," said Trustee President Tim Phipps. He said WDC Group specializes in fire stations. The company's other fire department projects include the City of Washington Courthouse safety building, the Hillsboro Fire and Police Station, and the Sugarcreek Township Fire Station among many other projects.
WDC Group was chosen from about 14 applicants and beat out Shremshock Architects of Sunbury, JBA Architects of Newark, Architectural Resources Group, Inc. of Chillicothe, all of whom, like WDC Group, gave personal presentations to the trustees.
"The building will be specific to our needs," said Phipps who expects the new station to be roughly 10,000 square feet and cost about $840,000. "We decided we can fit within that budget," he said.
Dave Lyle is chair of the board that's overseeing the project from the fire department's perspective. He said the board would not rush the design process. "We're still in the formative stages," he said. "We're just taking it one step at a time."
WDC Group project manager Jason Funderberg said he's not seen any specifics on the design yet and only preliminary meetings have taken place.
"It's a project for us and I know they want it built this year," he said. He expects to have a pretty good idea of what the design will look like within the next couple months.
