Help for struggling homeowners this weekend
HEBRON - The Licking County Save Our Homes Task Force is sponsoring a "Borrowers Outreach Day" to help people facing foreclosure and those who want to make sure it doesn't happen to them. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Creative Catering, 925 West Main Street, Hebron..
Other sponsors of Borrowers Outreach Day, which will offer loan-counseling sessions, contact with housing financial counselors and free legal assistance, include the Denison University Venture Philanthropy Club, Park National Bank, Licking County Commissioners, Licking County Bar Association, Pathways 2-1-1, and Southeast Ohio Legal Services. State Attorney General Richard Cordray, who has been at the forefront of statewide efforts to prevent foreclosures, will speak at the event.
Many Licking County homeowners struggle to keep current on their mortgage payments. Some may be one financial setback away from losing their home to foreclosure, while others are already experiencing the distressing consequences of foreclosure. Homeowners have watched monthly payments on adjustable rate mortgages rise rapidly. As average home values have moved downward, some homeowners find that their mortgage exceeds the value of their home.
If you're having difficulty making a payment or you anticipate a problem in meeting your mortgage obligations in the future, now is the time to take action.
Homeowners attending this event will have the opportunity to partner with an advocate who might assist in negotiating with banks and loan servicing companies.
"There aren't too many of us who factor financial difficulties into our plans when we purchase a home, but any of us could suddenly find ourselves in trouble," says 2-1-1-Director Linda Camelo. "We want to encourage homeowners to take action and use every resource available so that they can maintain control over their finances and stay in their homes."
