Helen (Shrider) Mack

Funeral service for Helen (Shrider) Mack, 87, of Zanesville, formerly of Brownsville, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Somerset United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Uppole officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Brownsville.

Helen died Monday, March 30, 2009, at Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care (Morrison House) after a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Somerset the oldest of eight children of the late George L. and Mae Albert Shrider.

She was a 1939 graduate of Glenford High School, a member of Brownsville United Methodist Church where she served on various committees, a 60 year member of Brownsville Chapter 486 O.E.S. where she was a Past Matron, a member of Brownsville Senior Citizens and the former Brownsville Friendship Class. She served on the election board in Bowling Green Township for 30 years and had served as treasurer of Cedar Hill Cemetery Association in Brownsville for over 20 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed.

Surviving are two sons, James Mack, of Brownsville, and John (Cindy) Mack, of Glenford; four daughters, Janet Durant, of Zanesville, Joyce (Rick) Wilson, of Thornville, Jane (John) Bope, of Somerset, and Judi (P.W.) Shaeffer, of Somerset; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou Moorehead, of Cincinnati; one brother, Larry (Brenda) Shrider, of California; a brother-in-law, Roy Bowers of Belpre; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Kenneth R. Mack on Oct. 28, 1997; four brothers, Denzil, Dale, Kenneth, and Fred Shrider; a sister, Lois Ann Bowers; and two sons-inlaw, Harold Pollock and Thomas Durant.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
