Thanks from Waters' Edge Community Center

Editor:

We want to thank residents, area churches, and Buckeye Lake businesses for their support of the Waters Edge Community Center, 4852 Walnut Rd.

We are concluding our second year at the facility and our wish is that no child be left behind. It is important to equip each student with the right tools for school, and because others care, we were able to provide book bags, school supplies, coats, hats, and gloves to over 125 youth, along with helping teachers fill their supply cabinets.

A Thanksgiving meal was served to 100+ residents, followed by each family receiving a turkey with trimmings for a Thanksgiving dinner. Over 135 joined us for a Christmas celebration with each youth receiving a gift certificate or present of their choosing, along with food to take home. We had a block party with 150+ in attendance. Senior high students had an opportunity to attend summer camp at Hocking Hills. Other youth activities include bowling, swimming, Gameworks, and hiking.

On Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m. we have teen night in which all area teens are invited to come for snacks, games, and fellowship. This is a supervised event and the only rules are you must be at least 13 years of age, use no profanity, and no violence is permitted on the premises. Attendance has been from 15-40 teens.

On Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday afternoons from 4:00-5:30 p.m., we have after school tutoring and homework assistance for students in grades 2-6. This will continue as long as the students have homework to do.

Every Wednesday is a Celebration with a meal (prepared by area churches), worship, and activities from 6:00-7:15 p.m. This event is open to everyone, young and old. We thank the 60-70 adults and children who are faithful to come and the churches who provide the meal.

On Saturday evenings at 5:00 p.m. there is an AA Meeting held at the Center. If you would like more information on this call Rob at 928-5080.

Beginning Monday, April 6th at 7:00 p.m. and continuing every 1st and 3rd Monday evening, Friends of Jesus will be holding a worship service for those who are mentally and physically challenged.

We are also a distribution site for Angel Food Ministries which is delivered on the third Saturday of the month. If you are not familiar with this food opportunity, feel free to call or go to www, angelfoodministry. com for details.

Starting very soon, we will be adding a short court to the present facility for youth to have a place to play inside in bad weather. It is our plan to complete this addition by the end of June. In the fall we hope to offer an Upward Basketball Program for youth in grades 2-5.

These activities and programs would not be possible without the support of area churches, businesses, and residents of the Buckeye Lake area. The entire center is run with the help of grants and donations. We want to thank all who support this center. We are there for the children of Buckeye Lake and want to give them a safe haven where they can play and fellowship. If you would like more information, please feel free to call 323-4429.
