Rachel Ellen Darkes

A funeral service celebrating the life of Rachel Ellen Darkes, 91, of Hebron, was held graveside February 3, 2009, in the Kirkersville Cemetery, with Rev. Neal Skiles as celebrant.

Rachel died suddenly January 30, 2009, at home. She was born March 28, 1917, in Licking County, the daughter of the late Harry and Pleasant Dale (Wells) Hughes.

Rachel was a graduate of Union High School, Class of 1935. She was a homemaker and also cleaned for others in the area. She was a member of the Licking County home extension group, and loved reading and story telling.

Her husband, Howard Denver Darkes preceded her in death on August 20, 1996.

She is survived by her loving family; her daughters, Sherry (John) DeVault of Granville, Patricia (Bill) Cunningham of Hebron, and Kay (John) George of Plain City; her sister, Betty Lauterbach of Kirkersville; her brother, William (Mary) Hughes of Newark; her six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy in her memory be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2669 Cherry Valley Rd, Newark, Ohio 43056.
