Snow and ice storm shuts down schools, businesses

LAKE AREA - More than school children had the day off Wednesday as schools, government agencies, and even many businesses closed their doors as Licking, Fairfield, and Perry counties experienced a Level 2 snow emergency. Under a Level customers' homes went dark in Licking County, and nearly 5,400 Perry County AEP customers lost power. Most county offices were closed by 2 p.m. 2, roads are considered hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. People are advised only to travel if it's absolutely necessary. Nearly half of the Lake Area lost power as heavy ice accumulations brought down power lines. As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, nearly 5,000 AEP customers were without power in Fairfield County, almost 1,300 AEP
