William Richard "Dick" Orr

A funeral service celebrating the life of William Richard "Dick" Orr, 84, of Hebron, was January 20, 2009, in the chapel of the Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville, with Ed Williams, his great-nephew, as celebrant. Burial with full military honors by the Licking County Veterans Alliance was at Kirkersville Cemetery.

Dick died Friday afternoon in Newark after a long illness. He was born March 24, 1924, in Licking County, the son of the late Emmett and Gladys Eulalia (Coffman) Orr.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran of the 748th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion stationed in Iceland. He retired in 1984 after 33 years at the Timken Detroit Axle "Rockwell International" clock No. 322 as a layout inspector. He was an lifelong resident of the Hebron community and belonged to the Hebron Post of the American Legion, Hebron Lodge 116 F. & A.M., Eagon Chapter 123, Order of Eastern Star and Hebron Christian Church. He loved to travel, golf and tinker in the garage, but most of all he loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Nora Lee Orr; his children, Bill Orr and Rick (Terri) Orr; stepchildren, Bruce (Margie) Kitchen, Diane Billow and Dana (Brenda) Kitchen; grandchildren, Greg Orr, Chris (Tonya) Orr, Shawn Orr and Michael Orr; four stepgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Orr, of Newark; sister, Eloise Bell, of Port Arthur, Texas, and special niece, Barbara Jean Barrera. Richard also is survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Lucille Orr, on Feb. 21, 1988; and his brothers, Harry, Ralph, Darrell and Charles.
