Trey Matthew Martens
Trey Matthew Martens, 9, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Nationwide Children's Hospital after a long battle with leukemia. He was born August 19, 1999, in Lancaster.
He was a student at Liberty Union-Thurston Elementary School who loved math. Trey was a big Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeye fan and card player. He enjoyed playing baseball, football, basketball, and soccer and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Wes and Shawna Martens; sister, Malery Martens of Lancaster, Ohio; grandparents, David and Leslie Martens of Lancaster, and James and Diana Rhymer of Stoutsville; great grandmother, Anna Belle Rhymer of Stoutsville; aunts and uncles, Melissa (Jason) Cordial of Springfield, Kim (Mike Scott) Snyder of Strongsville, and Erin (Dwayne) Clouse of Georgetown, Kentucky; great aunts and uncles; and six cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents.
Funeral service was held January 17, 2009, at Christ United Methodist Church, Baltimore, with Rev. Marie Duquette of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Burial followed in Union Evangelical Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to benefit Cancer Department at Nationwide Children's Hospital, 700 Children's Dr., Columbus, Ohio 43205. Arrangements were handled by the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, Baltimore.
