Free tax help available

NEWARK - The Licking County Coalition for Housing (LCCH) Positive Balance Financial Literacy program will be offering its annual income tax preparation to qualifying persons in Licking County.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), offers free tax preparation to low and moderate income tax payers. Beginning January 15 through April 15, 2009, Licking County residents can have their taxes completed quickly and accurately with no charge for the service.

Federal and State tax preparation is available to all Licking County residents as long as annual household income does not exceed $42,000. Only those persons filing with W-2's or 1099's can participate in this program. Returns will be e-filed with no cost to the taxpayer.

VITA sites in Newark will be located at The OSU/COTC Newark Campus Warner Student Center - 1179 University Drive, and Opportunity Links, 998 East Main Street. Hours of operation will be Mon-Fri, 9 am-4 pm with walk-ins accepted based on availability. Saturday hours from 10 am-2 pm will be available at the OSU-N/COTC site only.
