Leo Popo, 86, of Canton, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away January 5, 2009. Born in Canton to the late Biagio and Anna Popo, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Yolanda DeSantis and Anna Grace Amos.
An Army veteran of WW II, Leo retired from the Berger Division of Republic Steel after 30 years, then worked as the chief bailiff for the Canton Municipal Courts, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Unique Club of Canton, Canton Ex-News Boys, McKinley Eagles, VFW Post #3747, American Legion Post #44 and an avid football fan.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Angiulo) Popo; sons and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Debbi Popo of Millersport, and Leonard Popo of Canton; daughter, Anna Marie Popo of North Canton; grandchildren, A.J. Fosselman, Michael Popo and Danielle Fosselman; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Darold Gilmore of Canton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Barb Popo of Whiting, NJ and Vince and Evelyn Popo of Longbranch, NJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on January 8, 2009, in St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Tom Bishop as celebrant. Entombment was in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations can be made to the Canton Ex-News Boys.
