Mary Ann Kirkpatrick

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mary Ann Kirkpatrick, 79, of Newark, was November 17, 2008, at Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville, with Russell Howard officiating. Private family burial was in Fairmount Cemetery near Jacksontown.

Mary Ann died November 13, 2008, at Selma Markowitz Hospice Care Center in Newark after an extended illness. She was born April 25, 1929, in Caledonia, to the late Howard and Minnie (Honaker) Haines. A lifelong homemaker, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and collecting dolls and teddy bears. According to a grandson, "She never closed the door on anybody."

She is survived by her loving husband, Walt, whom she married April 30, 1966; her daughter, Ginger Sergent, of Marion; stepdaughter, Marsha (Kenneth Brofford) Stokes, of Newark; grandchildren, Rick (Mary Jo) Sergent, Shiela L. Sergent, Paul (Rhonda) Sergent and Janet (Rob Kelley) Sergent; stepgrandchildren, Barbara Petrey, Daniel Stokes, Michael (Kayla) Stokes and James Stokes; 12 great-grandchildren, including her namesake, Monica Ann, and special great-grandchild, Shirley (James) Cleveland; eight greatgreat grandchildren, including her namesake, Nikki Ann; and special nephews, Charlie (Debra) Kirkpatrick, of Newark, and Steve (Cheryl) Kirkpatrick, of Hebron.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother; a sister; and her grandson, Timothy.
