Thanks for another successful Firebowl
My name is Ria Fox. I am fortunate to do what I love to do, which is change people's lives. This was the ninth year for Firebowl and the fourth year for the benefit of the Thurston Fire Department to purchase equipment as they see fit. Firebowl was once again held as Starlite Lanes where owner Brad Williams donated the use of the lanes and shoe use. Thanks Brad!
On October 4, 17 civicminded individuals bowled and raised $1,921.75. Susan Hite gave me a run for the gas card as she raised on $50 less than I did. Thanks Susan! Belterra Resort & Spa donated an overnight stay with meals which was won by Terra Large of Glenford and the raffle raised $220. Abby Coffman sold the most raffle tickets. Thanks Abby! The cake raffle raised $15.50 and Kelley Kohler of Rushville won the cake made by TC Market. If you are adding with me you know the subtotal is $2,157.25.
Thurston Mayor Mary Barber Boring raised $117, but was unable to attend due to a death in the family. Thanks Mary! I received three late checks by mail (totaled $475) and Fire Chief Jim Hite hand-delivered two checks (totaled $600) to the pizza shop. Thanks Jim!
The total for Firebowl 2008 is $3,349.25. So if we are all about totals here are the facts. Firebowl has raised $23,000 for the Thornville-Thorn Twp. Fire Department and over $14,000 for the Thurston-Walnut Twp Fire Department. Pizza "Ria's" and Pizza "Ria's Too" has underwritten the event from the start and 100% of the monies raised have been turned turned over to the respective fire departments.
Firebowl 2009 will be my last. Ten years is what I pledged to myself and if I made a difference in my community I would be successful. I'm mentioning this now to cut down the rumors at the last event. People will believe what they want to believe and do what they are going to do - I can't change that.
My many thanks to Pepsi Bottling of Columbus for the banners and door prizes. My thanks to Rebecca S. (my cuz) & Belterra Resort & Spa, Indiana for the $438 package. My thanks to our "Crew at Too" for all you do.
To the fire fighters that love their community they servethank you from the bottom of my heart. To the fire fighters that do the job for a pay check - thank you for a job well done.
