James Swartz Cormican

A funeral service for James Swartz Cormican, 82, of Licking Township, were Oct. 21, 2008, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Thornville, with Pastor Jeff and Patty Morlock officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Jacksontown.

James passed away peacefully at home on Friday.

He was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Newark, to the late James and Milda (Swartz) Cormican. James was in the U.S. Army, serving in Japan. He came home from the service and bought his first self-propelled combine in Licking County. An International Harvester, he sent the biggest part of his Army pay home and paid cash for the combine. James belonged to the VFW Post 1388 in Buckeye Lake and AmVets Post 51 in Thornville and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the farm bureau. He was on the board of Land Mark, a Licking Township trustee for 27 years and a lifetime farmer.

James leaves behind his loving family, consisting of his wife, Carol (Griffith) Cormican; children, Virginia (Dale) Mosholder, Terri (John) Turner, Jim (Celeste) Cormican, Mike P. Cormican and John (Molly) Cormican; nine grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Milda Ann Cormican.
