Writer criticizes Van Buren

Editor:

I would like to add my name to the list of Franklin, Licking, and Muskingum county residents who have done business with Mark Van Buren or his South Forty Homes and know that he is the last person who should be in charge overseeing taxpayers' money as Licking County Commissioner. Like others who have dealt with him, I found that, contrary to the beliefs he stated on his web site ("I believe government must have the trust of the people and trust is built by being honest"), Van Buren was neither honorable nor trustworthy in completing his contractual obligations either in a timely manner or completing them period. Nor was he hesitant to charge for work that he had not completed and was likely to never complete.

There is a very real reason that Van Buren glosses over his business experience when stating his qualifications for commissioner. As a commissioner, Van Buren has the same contractual responsibilities with the taxpayers as he did with consumers as a businessman. He failed as a businessman; let's not give him a chance to fail as a commissioner. Vote for Brad Feightner.
