Robert R. Blauser

A funeral service celebrating the life of Robert R. Blauser, 81, of Fresno, formerly of Hebron, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fairview United Methodist Church, Pickerington, with Pastor Jeremy Shank as celebrant. Burial will be in Basil Cemetery, Baltimore.

Robert passed peacefully at home Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 8, 1927, in Liberty Township, Fairfield County, the son of the late Stanley and Cornelia Reef Blauser.

Robert was the president of his class (1946) at Liberty-Union High School and was a graduate of Hocking Technical College and Ohio Dominican University. He served as a yeoman seaman in the U.S. Navy from April 26, 1948, until Jan. 31, 1950. He worked as an independent grocer in Baltimore, taught elementary school in Somerset and served as assistant superintendent at Dawes Arboretum in Newark.

Robert loved nature and animals and enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was the founding adviser of the National Roaders 4-H club in southwest Licking County, as well as a founding member of the Licking County Archaeology and Landmarks Society. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Canal Lewisville.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, the former Norma Jean Hornung, whom he married Nov. 25, 1948; his children, Dr. Cathrine Allyn (Jack) Darr, of Fresno, Molly (Lee) Pletcher, of Pataskala, Bobbie (Gary) Schnitkey, of Champaign, Ill., David (Lisa) Blauser, of Crooksville, and Victor Blauser, of Columbus; 12 grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; brother, Stanley Jr. (Barbara) Blauser, of Stockton, N.J.; brother-in-law, Wayne Fritz, of Baltimore; sisters-in-law, Becky Todd, of Baltimore, and Pat Blauser, of Canal Winchester; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Norman Blauser; brothers, Kenneth Blauser and Robert Todd; and a sister, Charmaine Fritz.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church before the service.
