      BUCKEYE LAKE - Monday night's power outages in the wake of Sunday's windstorm may have added to the strong turnout at a meeting sponsored by the Village of Buckeye Lake at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, which, unlike many of the homes in Buckeye Lake, had electricity.

Volunteers sought to help improve lake's water quality
      BUCKEYE LAKE - Do you want to help improve the quality of water in Buckeye Lake? Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow is a new volunteer organization dedicated to improving water quality in the lake. One of the first steps is additional monitoring and testing to determine the sources of the impairments - lack of clarity, algae blooms and fish kills.

Residents want crack down on junk vehicles
      JACKSONTOWN - Several Harbor Hills residents asked Licking Township Trustees Monday night to use their new authority under House Bill 50 to remove unlicensed vehicles and boats. Jim Fedora, president of the Harbor Hills Civic Association, told Trustees Joe Cooper and Dave Miller that problems with junk vehicles and boats at a Wildwood Place home go back 20 years.

     A lone gunman robbed the Hebron branch of Park National Bank just after 3 p.m. Wednesday. Hebron Police Lt. Larry Brooks said the gunman was a white male in his mid to late 20's. He was wearing a hoodie with a bandanna across his face. He displayed a handgun and left the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. A Licking County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit attempted to track the man. No one was injured during the holdup. FBI agents arrived quickly after the incident and were interviewing witnesses. D. Thanks to Joe Albanese, the Village of Buckeye Lake's Parks and Recreation Commission is hosting Rossetti's motivational presentation Saturday, Sept. 20.

Murder/suicide takes two lives
      WALNUT TOWNSHIP - Tragedy struck Thursday night in Walnut Township. Shepard Avenue resident Raymond Dymek shot and killed Hayden "Dave" Sloan, 48, who lived at Dymek's home with Sloan's 27 year old daughter, Tanya Hager. About nine hours after shooting Sloan, Dymek shot himself at about 7:30 a.m. Friday morning in Hoback Park in Heath.

Backwoods Fest is still on this weekend
      THORNVILLE - Kathy Launder is really lucky. The cofounder of Thornville's popular Backwoods Fest said Sunday's violent windstorm that knocked out power and uprooted trees did little damage to the festival grounds. "We brought in eight boys and a wood chipper. The Backwoods Fest goes on," said Launder. "It's all cleaned up.
