William E. Washburn Jr.
A funeral service for William E. Washburn Jr., 81, of Heath was September 5, 2008, Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark.
Mr. Washburn passed away September 2, 2008, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1926, in Newark, to the late William E. Sr. and Josephine M. (Tanner) Washburn. He retired from the Holophane Co. after 43 years of service where he was a member of the Holophane Quarter Century Club and Union Local No. 525. He also was a member of the Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society, Moundbuilders Senior Club, Sunrise Senior Club and Woodside Presbyterian Church. He also bowled for the Holophane Trio and spent several years on a men's church bowling league.
Bill's favorite color was blue and he enjoyed fishing, camping, photography and listening to music of the big-band era. He had many fond memories and spoke frequently of the Buckeye Lake Amusement Park where he ran a game stand in the 1940s. A photo of him at the game stand is on display in the Buckeye Lake Museum, as well as appearing on the 2008 Buckeye Lake calendar and on the three of diamonds on the deck of Buckeye Lake playing cards.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda A. Wolfe, of Heath/Hebron, grandchildren, Kimberly (George) McClure, of Heath, Chance D. Wolfe, of Newark, and Nicholas W. Wolfe, of Heath; great-grandchildren, Andrew J. Lee, of Kentucky, Jordan (Rebecca) Lee, of Heath, and Madelyn E. McClure, of Heath.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Edith J. (Swartz) Washburn, who passed away Aug. 20, 2001; and his two infant brothers, John Ellis Washburn, who died Sept. 27, 1933, and C. Ellis Washburn, who died April 26, 1935.
