Megan Alyse Custer
Megan Alyse Custer, 19, of Mount Perry, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, after a hard fought battle with severe trauma, following an automobile accident.
Megan was born Oct. 9, 1988, in Zanesville, the beloved daughter of David S. and Angela L. Jones Custer and sister of Daniel S. Custer, all of Mount Perry.
She attended Glenford Elementary School and was a 2007 graduate of Sheridan High School. The following year, she attended The Ohio State University, where she was pursuing a degree in accounting from the Fisher School of Business.
During Megan's high school career, she was both an accomplished athlete and honor student. She played volleyball throughout middle school and high school and was awarded varsity letters her junior and senior years. Her true passion was basketball in which she excelled greatly, receiving four varsity letters during high school, while being a leader in various statistics. Megan not only focused on the playing field, but in the classroom as well, receiving the Scholar-Athlete Award both her junior and senior years. Also, while at Sheridan, she was proud to be admitted into the National Honor Society during her junior and senior years, and she actively participated in the student council.
Outside of school, Megan's compassion and humanitarianism was exemplified in her active role in the Big Sisters Program, while her lifelong faith was apparent in her membership to the Mt. Perry United Presbyterian Church and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
As a student at OSU, Megan participated in new groups and activities. She joined the United Business Women of America during her first quarter of school. She was chosen to represent Perry County in the I-BEAM program, where she later went on to meet the president of Ohio State, Gordon Gee.
Megan's love for sports continued into her college career, where she played on various intramural teams, including two teams which her brother joined her as a teammate.
Megan was employed by the Kroger Co. of Hebron from 2006- 08, where she worked in the customer service department and later in the pharmacy, where she was a technician.
She had a kind spirit that touched all who came into contact with her. Her smile lit all our lives with happiness and joy and her sudden sassiness reminded us of her strength.
Her hobbies included listening to music, shopping for long hours at a time, watching movies with friends and family and enjoying the children in her life.
Megan was a gift to all of us and will be missed by all.
