Licking Township bike path fight goes to court
      LICKING TOWNSHIP - Debate over a proposed Licking Township bicycle path is now in the hands of the courts. Last week, Licking County Prosecutor Ken Oswalt sent the dispute between the Evans Foundation and residents who live along the rail bed of the former Buckeye Scenic Railway to Licking County Common Pleas Court.

5K race set for August 30
      MILLERSPORT - The 19th Annual Sweet Corn Festival 5K Run is set to start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 30. Registration is $15 per runner before August 29 and $20 on race day. Race day registration is 7:15 to 8:55 a.m. The first 285 registrants receive a free T-shirt.

New fire/EMS levy request cut in half
      JACKSONTOWN - Licking Township voters will be asked to approve a new three mill levy for fire and EMS services on the November 4 ballot. Trustees cut Fire Chief Mike Wilson's original request for an additional six mill levy in half at a special meeting August 11. Wilson asked for six mills to have a paid four-person crew on station at Jacksontown aroundthe clock.

EMS billing brings in $131,000
      HEBRON - It's definitely adding up. Hebron Fire Chief Randy Weekly told Union Township Trustees Monday night that EMS billing raised approximately $131,000 since the program began July of last year. "That's about the amount we projected," said Weekly. Weekly estimates the township will receive about $40,000 of the total.

      The Licking Township Board of Trustees have cancelled its regular meeting set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008. The Board's next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at the Licking Township Fire Company, 9384 Jacksontown Road (St. Rt. 13).

Kirkersville names Metheny fiscal officer
      KIRKERSVILLE - Mayor Terry Ashcraft named Harrison Township resident Juanetta Metheny as village fiscal officer during an Aug. 20 special council meeting. She will be paid $12.75 per hour for up to 24 hours per week. She is expected to assume her new post next month. She will replace Johnny Adkins.

      MILLERSPORT - Aaron Tippin gained his success the old fashioned way; he earned it. The talented singer/songwriter - who headlines the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival this year - worked a midnight shift at a Kentucky factory early in his career, then commuted to Music Row in Nashville to write songs during the day- every day.
