James Frederick Braig
A funeral service for James Frederick Braig, age 82, of Daytona Beach Florida, formally of Buckeye Lake was held o August 13, 2008, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson - Van Atta Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. George Gordon officiating. Private internment followed on August 14.
Jim was born on July 30, 1926, in Newark, Ohio to the late Frederick and Christy (Persig) Braig and passed away Saturday, August 10, 2008, in Daytona Beach Florida.
He graduated from Hebron High School in 1944 and spent his youth working at Buckeye Lake Park operating the dive bomber ride. He served his country in WWII in the Navy aboard the USS Rogers destroyer and witnessed the signing of the peace agreement with Japan at Tokyo Bay. Upon his return he attended Franklin University in Columbus.
He was employed with Clark's Dairy in Hebron and Gene Fitch Construction before being appointed Buckeye Lake Postmaster. He served in that position for 30 years.
He spent his retirement years in Texas and Florida.
He was a member of the Community Church of Buckeye Lake where he served on the Board of Trustees, drove the church bus and worked in the youth programs. He was the first President of the LEADS of Buckeye Lake. He was a founding member of the Buckeye Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He was also served for three years as President of the Central Ohio Postmasters Association.
He enjoyed boat of all kinds especially like working on Chris Crafts. Over the years he refurbished many models.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Ann Braig and grandson, Storme Lee Wilson. He is survived by his daughter, J-me Braig (Emil) Bogden of Hebron; son, Robin Braig of Daytona Beach; two granddaughters, McKenzee Beth Wilson and Savanna Dee Wilson, both of Hebron and his former wife, Donna Braig of Buckeye Lake.
