Volunteers make Tour of Homes a success again

Editor:

Thank you to all who made the 2008 Tour of Homes another successful event for the Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association.

There were 129 volunteers working as hostesses, dock workers, captains, 1st Mates, parkers and registration staff. A total of 32 pontoon boats transported over 760 visitors to the five homes featured on this year's Tour. Thanks to the advance preparation of co-chairs Janet Bartholow and Connie Saffle, there were no waiting lines and everything ran smoothly throughout the entire afternoon.

Coconis Furniture, Joyce and Kyle Thorp of ReMax Realty Centre and The Landings at Maple Bay were our Corporate Sponsors for this year's event. Donations were also received from Kroger, Subway, Little Pizza House, Fisher's Marina, AMVETS, Boat Boys, Kinetico, Walmart and The Jabber Shop.

Homeowners Donald Dick, Pete & Jill Ewell, Don & Sandy Davis, David & Beth McCormick, Tom & Chris Phillips and Monica Merriman deserve special recognition for opening their homes for this year's Tour and graciously sharing the unique lifestyle that makes living at Buckeye Lake so special.

Proceeds from this year's Tour of Homes will be used to help develop a new 501(c)(3) organization, focused on the monitoring water quality of the streams and tributaries that feed into the lake. In addition, sediment collections will also be taken to determine the condition of the lake bed and the impact this sediment is having on the overall quality of the lake.

All of this would not be possible without the generous outpouring of support that comes from the volunteers, sponsors and membership of the Civic Association.

Thank you for maintaining a strong interest in your community and supporting the activities that make our neighborhoods a special place to live.

Merv Bartholow, President Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association
