Liberty Township Community Chest seeks support

Editor:

This is an open letter to the residents of Liberty Township and Liberty Union- Thurston School District.

Many of us have heard the phrase "Think Globally, Act Locally" about charity and good works. Great idea, but how does it relate to you?

Did you know that there is a charity right in your neighborhood that promises you that EVERY dollar you donate stays and works right here? Liberty Township Community Chest has been in existence since the the 1940Æs and has been quietly working to help those in need. Although there are many governmental programs and other charities in place, not every person or problem qualifies for all the programs. Many people just need one helping hand one time to see them through a rough patch.

Our board is strictly volunteer; no one is paid. All our funds are donations. Lately, if not for the generosity of the Baltimore Lions Club and the Baltimore VFW Post #3761, we would not have been able to operate.

How do we operate? Very simply, all it takes is a call to one of our board members. They call an officer who screens the applicant quickly and thoroughly through the county and state agencies. We generally can deliver help in less than 48 hours. What kind of help? Rent, utilities, prescriptions, school and team fees, furniture, school supplies and clothing, you name it, we've probably helped with it.

Liberty Township Community Chest is a 501 C (3) charity so all donations are tax deductible. Our current board consists of President Hugh Schaffner, Treasurer Ruth Ann Widner, Secretary Betsy Alt, Lori Fellure, Lora Heistand, Dave Keller, Marcia Shell and Ruth Ann Taylor.

If this sounds like an organization you would like to support or be part of, please call Hugh Schaffner at 862-4549 or Betsy Alt at 862-6086. If you would like to make a donation, please make it payable to Liberty Township Community Chest and mail it to R. A. Weidner, 6405 Fisher Road, Baltimore 43105. Thanks for your time and look for us at the Baltimore Festival! Betsy Alt Liberty Township
