Evelyn Joyce "Joy" Siegel

A memorial service for Evelyn Joyce "Joy" Siegel, 87, of Newark, formerly of Harbor Hills, was held July 5, 2008, at Henderson-Van Atta Funeral & Cremation Service, Newark, with Brother Phil Coblentz officiating.

Joy passed away July 3, 2008, at Newark Healthcare Centre. She was born Nov. 15, 1920, in Greensboro, N.C., to the late Francis E. and Lillian (McDonald) Cann.

Joy graduated from Duke University and, before her marriage, was associated with IBM. Joy Cann and Howard Siegel were married Dec. 4, 1943, in Greensboro. Joy and Howard owned and operated Merchant Motors, a Chrysler Corp. dealership, for many years. They also owned and operated the National Car Rental franchise in Heath. Joy was a member of Twig 10, the Coterie Club and Second Presbyterian Church of Newark.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Howard Siegel; son, Steve Siegel, of Cincinnati; son and loving daughter-in-law, Ned and Kathi Siegel, of Newark; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. John E. (Laura) Cann, of Mesa, Ariz.; and cousin, Paige (Phil) Szajnuk, of Overland Park, Kan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard; and a sister, Margaret.
