Golf cart ban said to infringe on the rights of disabled

Editor:

First and foremost, I am appalled at how the park officers are treating the golf carts at Fairfield Beach. There are many community residents that are disabled and they use them as a way to get around and enjoy the lake. Park officerss will not allow golf carts in the parking lots even when the are clearly marked handicapped. Many residents were not able to enjoy the BLASST this year after Tori Wolfe worked so hard to keep this tradition going.

The federal American Disabilities Act was created to protect the rights of the disabled. The park officers have infringed and continue to infringe on these rights. IT'S TIME TO TAKE A STAND!!!! Veterans in my family and many others have fought for these rights. Some have given their lives and limbs for this.

The lake patrol is now sending the message that if you are disabled and have to use a golf cart as a mobility device at the park, then you are not welcome. Well, I'm surly not going to stand for this and I hope that others will join me in standing up for our rights and the rights of the disabled and elderly!!! The Mathis Family Fairfield Beach
