Lake Area hosts United Way volunteers

LICKING COUNTY - More than 350 United Way volunteers took time Friday, June 27, to work in their communities as part of Licking County United Way's 14th Annual Day of Caring. The volunteers completed projects in Buckeye Lake, Kirkersville, Newark, Pataskala, and Utica.

"This year's event was awesome," said Donna L. Carpenter, executive director of the Licking County United Way. "We had more than 350 volunteers from both the community and 37 companies complete 53 different projects. We appreciate their efforts and thank each of them for helping us take care of what matters in Licking County."

The day began with a proc l ama t ion f rom the Licking County Board of Commissioners read at each of the four kick-off sites. Volunteers then branched out to their respective project locations and completed projects from painting, landscaping, and general clean up, to scraping and painting a house.

Many of the 350 volunteers were first time participants, including 31 employees of Jobes Henderson & Associates, a local civil engineering firm.

In addition to the 350 volunteers, 19 sponsors supported Day of Caring including Amanda Hills Spring Water, Chase Bank, Chuck Whitefield Entertainment, DeVine Farms, Christy's Pizza in Newark, C-TEC, Dow Chemical Company, Donatos Pizza in Pataskala, Giant Eagle in Heath, Licking County Habitat for Humanity, Licking Memorial Health Systems, Lowe's in Heath, M & H Screenprinting, Meijer, Pizza Cottage in Buckeye Lake, Stone Brothers Pizza in Utica, Virginia Chambers- Wine and Wal-Mart Stores in Heath and Newark
