Mount Carmel welcomes new pastor

Father William J. Ferguson Father William J. Ferguson COLUMBUS - Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Buckeye Lake, will welcome Father William J. Ferguson as pastor, effective July 8, 2008.

He succeeds Monsignor Frank J. Meagher, who is retiring. Previously, Fr. Ferguson was associate pastor of St. Mary Church, Marion, Ohio.

A native of Utica, New York, Fr. Ferguson earned a bachelor's degree from Hamilton College, Clinton, New York; a master's degree in geological sciences from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio; and a bachelor's degree in philosophical and religious studies and a master of divinity degree, both from the Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus.

Fr. Ferguson was ordained May 27, 2006, at St. Joseph Cathedral, Columbus, by the Most Reverend Frederick F. Campbell, Bishop of Columbus.

Monsignor Frank J. Meagher has served as pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. A native of Columbus, Msgr. Meagher earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from St. Charles Seminary, Columbus, and a master's degree in theology from Mount St. Mary of the West, Norwood, Ohio. He was ordained August 6, 1960, in Christ the King Church, Columbus, by the Most Reverend Clarence G. Issenmann, Bishop of Columbus.

Prior to his pastorate at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Msgr. Meagher served as assistant pastor of St. Nicholas Church, Zanesville, and St. Peter Church, Chillicothe. While in Zanesville, he was an instructor at Bishop Rosecrans High School and likewise in Chillicothe, he taught at Bishop Flaget High School. He was pastor of the parishes of: St. Bernard, Corning; St. Joseph, Circleville; and St. Agatha, Columbus, all in Ohio. Msgr. Meagher also served as chaplain for the Diocesan Commission on Scouting for Boys.
