Buckeye Lake Truck Stop closing Sunday
      BUCKEYE LAKE - It's the end of an era. The Buckeye Lake Truck Stop, a local institution for more than 35 years, is closing its doors Sunday at 7 p.m. Manager Charlie Moore said the garage will remain open, but otherwise, it's closing.

Boat parade set
      BUCKEYE LAKE - Joe and Therese Miller are the Grand Marshalls for the annual 4th of July Boat Parade. The couple has been active in their community for many years, serving as trustees of both the Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association and the Buckeye Lake Historical Society. Whenever there is a community event, Joe and Therese are there.

Trustees agree to make advance payment to village
      MILLERSPORT - The Village of Millersport will get its July payment from Walnut Township Trustees about fiveweeks early. The unanimous decision by trustees on Trustee Wally Gabriel's motion came near the end of a sometimes testy 90-minute joint village council-trustees meeting Tuesday night at Millersport Elementary School.

     Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp, left, hands Peggy Wells a letter thanking her and Pastor Bev Myers for "keeping this case (John Cortez) fresh in people's mind." The recognition came during the Sheriff's annual awards ceremony honoring deputies, volunteers and citizens for activities "above and beyond" that normally expected. He thanked them for organizing the candle light vigil to help keep the case alive in the media. "They (Myers and Wells) were holding people's feet to the fire," Thorp added. Zoning issue gains life of its own
      BALTIMORE - A Chinese puzzle has nothing in complexity over a Liberty Township zoning application, which has gained a life of its own. Liberty Township Trustee Tim Linkhorn said more people voted to approve the zoning change than deny it, yet for the moment it remains denied.

37/79 intersection reopens Monday
      MILLERSPORT - The Ohio Department of Transportation expects the upgraded intersection of Ohio 37 and Ohio 79 to reopen as scheduled Monday morning, June 23. The intersection was closed three weeks ago on June 2 to install a left turn lane off Ohio 37 to Ohio 79.

We'll supply the poles and bait. You pair adults with kids ages 4 and up, then kick back and see what bites. Cub Scout Wolves who participate will earn arrow points for their fishing elective.

Thornville Safety Day is Saturday, June 21
      THORNVILLE - Thornville Police are sponsoring a free Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 at the Thornville Elementary School. There will be displays and activities geared toward children and families including police cruisers, fire equipment, K-9 demonstrations, fingerprinting and a possible Med Flight fly-in.

     Nathan Alexander (left), 17, and Adam Heil, 19, run through Jacksontown on US 40 June 13. They are part of a team of students running 1,300 miles in relay fashion from Wichita, KS to Washington DC to raise awareness of genocide throughout the world. The team partnered with the Genocide Intervention Network, STAND: a student anti-genocide coalition. Each student runs 13 miles per day. The journey began June 2 to end June 20.
