Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp, left, hands Peggy Wells a letter thanking her and Pastor Bev Myers for "keeping this case (John Cortez) fresh in people's mind." The recognition came during the Sheriff's annual awards ceremony honoring deputies, volunteers and citizens for activities "above and beyond" that normally expected. He thanked them for organizing the candle light vigil to help keep the case alive in the media. "They (Myers and Wells) were holding people's feet to the fire," Thorp added. Chief Deputy Chad Dennis, right, helped Thorp with dozen plus awards. Beacon photo by Charles Prince.
