Safe Boating Course set for June 21

BUCKEYE LAKE - the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft will be offering an 8-hour Ohio Boating Education Course on Saturday, June 21. The class will be held at the Division of Watercraft Buckeye Lake Office, 12408 Lancaster Street, Millersport, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Ohio Boating Education Course covers state and federal laws, navigational rules of the road, and basic boating safety practices. A $5 pre-paid fee covers he cost of materials and pre-registration is required.

The course meets Ohio's boating education requirement, which became effective January 1, 2000. The law requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1982, to successfully complete either an approved boating course or a proficiency examination before operating a boat with greater than 10 horsepower. The course also may qualify boaters for a discount on boat owner's insurance.

Boaters who pass the course will receive a wallet card to show as valid proof of course completion. To register, call the Division of Watercraft Alum Creek Field Officeat (740) 548- 5490, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
