Effort to fillvacant storefronts gets big boost
      BALTIMORE - Baltimore's Empty Store Marketing Campaign Committee is putting its money where its mouth is. The committee is partnering with a local lender to offer low interest loans to property owners wanting to improve the facades of their vacant Baltimore area storefronts.

Trustees ignore mayor's request for full payment
      MILLERSPORT - Walnut Township Trustees and the Village of Millersport are on a collision course. Last week, Millersport Mayor Dean Severance demanded that trustees pay the village its contractual 60 percent of the township's fire/EMS tax receipts by May 23. This dispute started when trustees paid the village $128,687.20 on April 22.

No plans for Union Township Fire Department
      HEBRON - Hebron Mayor Clifford Mason said he and Union Township Trustee President John Slater had a "heart to heart" talk about the trustees' plans for local fireprotection to clear up any rumors that the trustees intended to create an independent township firedepartment. Mason said he came away from the conversation feeling confidentthe trustees have no plans to do so.

Lake area Senate District gets over $31 million in state projects
      COLUMBUS - Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) announced last week that the 31st Senate district is slated to receive more than $31 million in the state capital budget bill. House Bill 562, the biennial capital budget bill, provides funding for community and infrastructure projects across the state.

37/79 intersection closes Monday, June 2
      JACKSONTOWN - The Ohio Department of Transportation District 5 Deputy Director Don D. Barber P.E./P.S. announced May 28 that the intersection of Ohio 37 and Ohio 79, west of the Village of Buckeye Lake will close to all traffic at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 2.

Lady Lancers take Central District Softball title
      PICKERINGTON - Lakewood's Lady Lancers brought home another Central District Division III softball championship last Thursday. It was a particularly sweet victory. The Lady Lancers, ranked #1 in the state in Division III, beat two-time defending state champion Bloom-Carroll 3-0 on Emily Voehringer's three run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Benefit set for May 31
      BUCKEYE LAKE - Friends of Gene Hedrick and Our Lakeside Diner are having a spaghetti dinner and bake sale from 4 p.m. to 7 p.. on Saturday, May 31 at the Our Lakeside Diner on Ohio 79. Gene has multiple brain tumors and doesn't have health insurance. All proceeds from the dinner and bake sale will go toward his medical expenses and medication.
