Go Climb a Tree!
JACKSONTOWN- Like a healthy tree, Dawes Arboretum's annual Arbor Day celebration keeps growing. This year, more than 3,000 people attended the April 26 event. "That's a wonderful turnout, especially for the little bit of rain we had," said Public Relations Director Laura Appleman. She said in addition to the Arbor Day celebration regulars, such as Abram Winters' Tree Climbing USA activity, members of the Licking Township Fire Company fired up an emergency vehicle's internal pump, blasting a jet of water over the grounds. Captain Mike Briggs said the pump was only running at a quarter of its full power, otherwise it would soak many of the displays with mist. There were many new displays as well. "Each year we try to change that up," said Appleman, "and each year (the event) gets larger and larger."
