John G. Maier

Funeral services for John G. Maier, 77, of Newark, were March 22, 2008, at Reed-Egan Funeral Home, Newark, with the Rev. G. Michael Gribble officiating. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Jack passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Mount Carmel West Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 6, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Gilbert and Beatrice (Jenkins) Maier.

Jack was the former owner and operator of J&M Drywall. He later worked in real estate with Furman Tinnon Realty and eventually began his own business, Maier-Hoey Associates Realtors.

Jack was an avid boater, but above all else, he loved his family and friends. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran, and was a member of the Catholic faith, AMVETS, Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge, Licking County Board of Realtors, Newark Jaycees and the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club.

Jack is survived by his partner of 21 years, Sandy Huff, of Buckeye Lake; his sons and daughterin law, John E. Maier, of Newark, Richard and Angela Maier, of Chillicothe, and Robert T. Maier, of Pickerington; his daughters and son-in-law, Cynthia and Harry Reed, of Groveport, and Christine M. Zarker and Larry Fox, of Newark; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; the Huff children, Steven and Susan Huff, of Virginia, Deborah and James Mansfield,of Texas, and Douglas C. Huff and Sandy Cummings, of Buckeye Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years, Patricia Ann (Gilligan) Maier, in 1986.
